India’s semiconductor ambitions took a significant step forward as ASML and Tata Electronics signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the development of the country’s first commercial 300 mm semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat.
Under the agreement, ASML will provide advanced lithography systems and related solutions to support the fab’s future operations. The partnership also includes collaboration on workforce training, research initiatives, and the development of local semiconductor supply chain capabilities.
The project is further supported by Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), which is providing technology transfer, engineering expertise, and workforce development assistance.
Once operational, the facility is expected to manufacture semiconductors for automotive, communications, artificial intelligence (AI), and industrial electronics applications. The fab represents a major milestone in India’s efforts to establish domestic semiconductor manufacturing capacity and strengthen supply chain resilience.
The development is also highly relevant to the cleanroom and HVACR sectors. Semiconductor fabrication facilities require some of the world’s most advanced cleanroom environments, supported by precision temperature and humidity control, high-efficiency air filtration systems, contamination control technologies, and energy management solutions.
As global demand for AI infrastructure, data centers, and advanced electronics continues to rise, investments in semiconductor manufacturing are expected to create new opportunities across the cleanroom engineering, HVACR, and environmental control industries.
